CFL 2017 Mock draft (2 Rounds)

This is the first time that I'm going to give this a shot, but hey, If it's fun, than everything you do is worth the amount of backlash that I am sure to get.

Forgoing my predictions blog, as that will definitely be covered when we do our 9 teams in 9 weeks, i decided to dive into a mock draft.

Considering that we're all fresh off the CFL's inaugural CFL Week, an event that centered around the Combine, I felt the need to match my wits with those that have already posted their thoughts. Keep in mind, while I am impressed with certain numbers at the combine, It isn't the forefront behind these rankings.

So here we go!

1) Winnipeg Blue Bombers- Mason Woods, Idaho

Bombers don't 'Need' Offensive line help in this draft, but it's nice to know that the area of need...DL.....the draft class is really deep! A guy who's stock has risen since September really showed domination at the combine against some of the best.

2. Saskatchewan Roughriders- Dariusz Bladek, Bethune-Cookman

In my opinion, I think this is an actual better lineman than Woods. Off everybody's radar at one point due to his status at the time. Watching his video, he looks like a QB's wet dream.

3. BC Liona - Eli Ankou, UCLA

I would have followed suit with this pick with Offensive lineman. It appears that with the acquisition of Focault, BC may not see worth in the remaining options at this slot considering who's left. They love to load up at the D line position. Given that this is a guy who is as athletic as they come, it makes this a no brainer (in my opion, which means nothing to Buono)

4. Hamilton Tiger Cats- Danny Vandervoort, McMaster

It's clear that the Andy Fantuz days as a Tiger Cat are soon ending. Enter another top notch National receiver. It honestly wouldn't surprise me to see this guy leap into the top 3. He has speed to burn and is able to create separation quite easily which will make him an early favorite for Rookie of the Year.

5.Edmonton Eskimos- Dondre Wright, Henderson State

Think Taylor Loffler but with tonnes of athleticism. He's a hard hitter and automatically brings a lot to the table to a secondary that still has some question marks. Lots of people may have him in the 2nd round, but Hervey has shown a history of these kind of picks.

6. Winnipeg Blue Bombers- Faith Ekakitie, Iowa

Easy to see that the Bombers go OL and DL in the first round. In Ekakitie, they get a guy who is fast off the snap and is able to clog the middle and quick to the outside which makes it great in a defence that had issues to stop the run and get to the QB. The guy has a pretty decent vertical for a 300 LB too.

7.BC Lions- Geoff Gray- Manitoba

-This may be a reach. I was looking for a National receiver to replace the pending retirement of Shawn Gore. The closest that I can come up with would be Malcom Carter. Having said that Buono loves his dominant Offensive Lineman. With the current roster likely set and futures like Focault, Boyko, etc... Gray looks to be an excellent pick at this point.

8.Calgary Stampeders- Junior Luke, Montreal

-A definite 1st rounder and a 'should be 'top 5' pick. a versatile player on the line, that would mesh in Claybrooks defence. He is a force up the middle when asked to and has tremendous depth to drop in coverage when depended on.

9. Ottawa Redblacks- Kwaku Boateng, Laurier

- Seems to be a theme in the first round. Boateng provides versatility to move a long the line. Expecting perhaps to push guys like Williams for depth.

Second round

1(10) Toronto Argonauts- Christophe Mulumba, Maine

Looking to replace the ability of Cory Greenwood, this is a no brainer to me. They can look for that eventual replacement of Ricky Foley and a player who can play next to Darryl Waud on the D Line. Mulumba is a guy who(if given the chance) has a good nose for the ball and

2(11) Saskatchewan Roughriders- Mark Mackie- McMaster

Seeing as they have Eddie Steele who has been a rotational guy, it does make sense for the Riders to draft a guy who bring a similar skill set. Mackie is strong in the trenches and barely gets pushed back. He did prove well on his 1 on 1s at the Combine as well.

3(12) Montreal Alouettes- Jordan Herdman, Simon Fraser

Montreal makes their first pick in the second round and there are some bigger needs but Herdman is a can't miss at this point in the draft. He's quick and a sure tackler. He meets what the Als need with guys like Brouiette gone and Hebert likely on his last legs in the league

4(13) Hamilton Tiger Cats--Jean-Simon Roy, Laval

There's a part of me that doesn't think that the Tiger cats won't go OL here, but if so, they'd get a gooder......Yes Gooder....It's not a proper word, but for this , it should be. a Top 5 O lineman for guys who can step in this year, who is maturing as we speak and is pretty versatile. His frame still has some maturing as well, which may suit the guy who replaces Austin.....kidding....Or am I?

5.(14) Edmonton Eskimos Justin Herdman, Simon Fraser

If he's anything like his brother...WATCH OUT! Excellent on special teams and would be serviceable alongside JC Sherritt

6.(15) Winnipeg Blue Bombers- Nate Behar- Carleton

It wouldn't be surprising to see Malcom Carter as this pick, but Behar provides some tremendous upside which is what Walters is looking for as his National receiving depth includes the likes of Addison Richards and Matt Coates....yuck!

7(16)BC. Lions -LB Alexandre Chevrier, Sherbrooke

I only went Linebacker as I fully expect the Lions to select either Herdman if they were available. Lions need help on their teams and Chevrier is as good as many available. Otherwise they could go Anthony Auclair for the reason discussed in the first round

8(17) Calgary Stampeders- Robert Woodson, Calgary

This almost makes sense. I'm almost afraid to put it here.....There...I did it! The Stampeders Love local kids. Named defensive player of the year, an automatic shoe in to replace Matt Buchnor

9(18) Ottawa Redblacks- Johnny Augustine, Guelph

-The Redblacks would need to replace a guy like Keinan LaFrance. This is a guy who improved his draft stock at the combine this past week. He had a whopping 6 yards per carry in 2015! Rnation will love that.

Noteable left over- Evan Foster, Justin Senior. Malcolm Carter (duh..mentioned him a few times)
